The duties of the County Treasurer are regulated primarily by RSMO Chapter 54 – TREASURERS. There are statutes that crossover from various other chapters, as well.
The County Treasurer is the custodian of the county’s revenues and maintains records and reports of both revenues and expenditures. It is the County Treasurer’s responsibility to ensure that monies received are apportioned correctly and as required per state statutes. Some monies held by the treasurer may be invested for the profit of the county as directed by the County Commission. Computer accounting reports, bank statements and investment reports are reviewed monthly for accuracy.
The County Treasurer is the custodian of monies collected for the following taxing entities within the county: (schools, ambulance districts, library, fire district, nursing home) and is responsible for the proper disbursement of those monies.
The County Treasurer compiles semi-annual settlements of receipts and disbursements which are presented to the County Commission for their review.
